I would happily trade off 30-60 minutes of battery life for the option of BTO'ing 32 or 64GB of RAM. (Kaby Lake will support LPDDR4, but those chips aren't out yet)īasically, it's literally impossible for Apple to make what we want, without sacrificing battery life. To get past 16GB, they need to switch to DDR4, and the Intel chipset they're using doesn't support low-power DDR4.

Nvidia GPU (anything 1000 series Pascal architecture model would have been perfect)Įven the 16GB RAM limitation is due to battery. The Magic Trackpad is not ludicrously big by any means, but it is easier to do the various gestures on it than the built-in model. I'm beginning to think that the Trackpad Extreme appears immense but it's not actually as oversized as it appears. Holding it up to the 2013 enclosure, it seems maybe a little smaller than the Trackpad Extreme looks like in relation to the keyboard. On the 2013 15" MBP in front of me, the trackpad is ~ 105mm x 76mm, and the Magic Trackpad is ~ 130mm x 110mm, so not quite 2X the area. I'm trying to find dimensions for the new trackpad online, without success so far. Thus they're preparing for the bottom to become the equivalent of a 4.7" or even 5.5" iphone equivalent in landscape mode. My guess is that Apple is going to put a virtual touch screen on the track pad in the future once costs come down. I confess I don't quite understand the bigger trackpad. I'm also interested in the larger trackpad-I currently use the first-generation Magic Trackpad (or Mighty Trackpad, whatever) at my desk, which is bigger than the prior laptop trackpads, I think it will be helpful for me to have increased granularity there.
